The Civil Procedure Regulations, 2018 set a fixed structure and a length limit for a statement of claim. One that does not meet them may be returned for correction.

The fee in two halves
In a claim for a fixed sum the fee is paid in two halves: the first when the claim is filed, the second up to twenty days before the date set for the first hearing (regulation 6(a) of the Courts (Fees) Regulations, 2007). The amounts are in the Judicial Authority’s fee guide.
Before filing
- Check that every detail of part one is there.
- Count the pages of parts two and three.
- Attach exhibits as a booklet with continuous numbering, and an index when there are more than five.
- Make sure the file is a PDF of up to 70MB.
In Joy the pleading generator builds the parts from the matter, and the filing checker counts the pages and warns before filing.
