Only the person concerned can obtain it, directly from Registries and Notary Institute (Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado, IRN). Automatic renewal: the PIN letter carries a bank reference (valid 60 days) → check it at justica.gov.pt → Serviços → 'Confirmar a referência bancária da carta PIN' → pay. Online renewal: justica.gov.pt → 'Renovar o Cartão de Cidadão' → holder logs in with Chave Móvel Digital or the card + reader → confirms data and delivery → pays.
