What the report shows
Fee paid to the Registries and Notary Institute to register a new owner of a car, motorcycle or other vehicle after a sale, gift or inheritance. It must be done within 60 days of the acquisition; until then the seller stays liable for the vehicle and its taxes.

Legal limits

Only the person concerned can obtain it, directly from Registries and Notary Institute (Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado, IRN). justica.gov.pt → Serviços → 'Registar automóvel' → online vehicle registration service (Automóvel Online) → buyer and seller authenticate and sign with Cartão de Cidadão or Chave Móvel Digital (or a lawyer/solicitor files with a professional certificate and scanned documents) → submit the ownership-transfer request → pay the reference generated at the end.
